The Pro. Chancellor

Lt Gen (Rtd) Abdulrahman B. Dambazau

The Pro. Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of The Capital City University Kano; driven by a single, powerful conviction: that the most strategic investment any society can make is in the minds of its youth. We chose the name Capital City University as a permanent declaration of this belief.

Welcome Address

The Vice-Chancellor, Principal Officers of the University, esteemed Members of the University Senate, our dedicated Faculty and Staff, proud Parents and Guardians who have entrusted us with their greatest treasures, our distinguished Guests, and to our cherished students, the new cornerstones of this institution:

It is a profound honour to stand before you today on behalf of the Governing Council of Capital University Kano. I look upon this assembly not merely as a gathering, but as the living embodiment of a dream—a dream of a new era of excellence for Kano, for Northern Nigeria, and for our continent.

When the founders and sponsors conceived of this university, we were driven by a single, powerful conviction: that the most strategic investment any society can make is in the minds of its youth. We chose the name Capital University as a permanent declaration of this belief. While our nation rightly focuses on financial and infrastructural capital, we are here to champion the development of Human Capital—the engine that will drive every other sector forward.

The Vice-Chancellor has eloquently shared with you the university's vision and mission. My role, and that of the entire Governing Council, is to serve as the steadfast guardians of that vision. We are the stewards of this institution's promise.

To our dear parents and guardians, I say this: Your investment in these young men and women is sacred. The Council’s mandate is to ensure that this university is governed with the highest standards of integrity, transparency, and strategic foresight. We are committed to providing the Vice-Chancellor and his team with the resources, support, and oversight required to deliver on the world-class education they have promised. We will ensure that your trust in us yields a return that cannot be measured in Naira alone, but in the legacy of leadership your children will build.

To our students, I will offer a different perspective. The Vice-Chancellor has charged you to excel within these walls. I charge you to look beyond them. You are matriculating at a pivotal moment in our history. Nigeria stands at the cusp of a demographic dividend; a time when your energy, your innovation, and your skills can redefine our economic destiny.

This institution was not built to be an ivory tower, detached from the realities of our society. It was built to be an engine. An engine of solutions for our industries, an engine of prosperity for our communities, and an engine of ethical leadership for our nation. Therefore, the degree you earn here is not just a certificate for employment; it is your license to create employment. The knowledge you gain is not just for personal advancement; it is a tool for societal transformation.

The Governing Council has full confidence in the leadership of our Vice-Chancellor and his entire management team. We are united in our purpose to build a university that is not only a source of pride for Kano but a benchmark for excellence across Africa.

We welcome you into this great partnership. Let us work together—Council, management, faculty, and students—to build a capital of knowledge, a capital of innovation, and a capital of progress.

May your journey here be blessed with discovery, wisdom, and success. Thank you. God bless Capital University Kano, and God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
