Brief Biography
Lt Gen (Rtd) Abdulrahman B. Dambazau was Chief of Army Staff, Nigerian Army (2008 2010), and also served as the Nigeria’s Minister of Interior (2015-2019). He holds B.Sc Criminal Justice (1982), MA Political Science (1983), M.Ed Higher Educational Administration (1984), and Ph.D Criminology (1989). He is an alumnus of Nigerian Defence Academy (1974-1977), Kent State University, Ohio, USA (1980-1984), and University of Keele, UK (1986-1989).
He currently focuses on scholarly research on African regional security, as well as contributing to the development of higher education as the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman, Governing Council of a private tertiary institution, Capital City University, Kano (CCUK), Nigeria. He is a pioneer member of the Board of Trustees, Nigerian Society of Victimology. He is also a member of World Society of Victimology and the International Society of Criminology.
A Senior Fellow, Center for Peace, Democracy & Development, University of Massachusetts, Boston, General Dambazau is also Co-Chair, Africa Peace Forum, Center for African Peace & Conflict Resolution, California State University, Sacramento. For strategic military training he attended the National Defence College, New Delhi, India, where he received the Colonel Pyar Lal Gold Medal for the Best Thesis of 43rd NDC Course. He is an alumnus of the Weatherhead Center for International Affairs, Harvard University, as a Fellow (2012-2013) and Associate (2013-2014); and Harvard Kennedy School for the Executive Program on National and International Security.
He is the 2018 Hall of Fame, International Alumni Awardee of the College of Education, Health and Human Services, Kent State University, Ohio, USA. He is a member Board of Trustees, Nigerian Army Resource Centre from 2018 to date. General Dambazau authored books and journal articles on criminology and security studies, and delivered several papers in seminars, workshops, roundtable, etc mostly of issues of national security. He is married to Hadiza Dambazau. At his leisure time he enjoys watching documentaries, listening to music, and traveling.
